Winterization

As the autumn chill descends upon Northern Utah, it’s crucial to prepare your irrigation system for the frigid months ahead. Our winterization service is designed to protect your investment and prevent costly damage from freezing temperatures. We begin by meticulously draining your system, ensuring no water remains in the pipes or components. Our technicians then use compressed air to blow out any residual moisture, eliminating the risk of ice formation and pipe bursts. We also take care to insulate any exposed components and provide you with recommendations for winter landscape care. With our winterization service, you can rest easy knowing your irrigation system is safe and ready to serve you reliably come spring.

How Renegade Handles Irrigation

This company was a sprinkler-repair business before it was anything else. Renegade started in 2007 doing repairs on weekends; when Steve Winn took it over it was still repair-only, and it has grown into a full design, install and repair company since. Irrigation is still where we start every project, because in northern Utah the water is the constraint.

What that looks like in practice: we install Rain Bird systems and stock Rain Bird parts. We warranty our labor and installation for one year, on top of the manufacturer’s warranty on defective parts. We have no minimum, so a single head swap or a controller reset is a real job to us, starting at around $100. About 160 households have us out for a spring startup and a fall blowout every year, and the longest of those customers has been with the company since 2008.

Secondary water in our area has been turning on as late as mid-May and shutting off as early as mid-September in dry years, and districts have asked for less use in between. We design and set systems around those rules, and we would rather redesign an old system than watch it spray the sidewalk twice a week.

Water-wise does not mean no water. It means using it wisely, and a well-designed system is where that starts.
