Flagstone, Pavers and the Questions We Ask

When a homeowner says flagstone, the conversation is just getting started. Large pieces or small? Thick or thin? Tight joints or wide grout lines, and what goes in them: sand, gravel, turf? What color? Every answer changes how the patio looks and what it costs, and we would rather settle them on site with samples than on a phone call.

We build patios and walkways in flagstone, concrete pavers, travertine set in gravel, and poured concrete. Base prep is the same on all of them: excavate, compact, drain. Many of the projects in our gallery are a patio with a fire feature and a wall or steps to level the area, and that is the combination we build most often.

If the patio needs to be raised or cut into a slope, a retaining wall is part of the job. Two and a half feet of grade change is common on the newer lots in Davis and Weber County, and it is the single thing that surprises people most when we lay the project out with paint.

Homeowners who have done their research and stay open to a better idea get the best projects. We do the walk-through together, in the yard, with a laser and a can of paint.
